Indian Oil Corporation is planning to
invest Rs.5,000 crore to expand the capacity of its 12 million tpa Panipat
refinery to 15 million tpa. The company's board has already approved the
expansion plan.
The petrochemicals complex, which is
also proposed, will entail
an investment of around Rs.11,900 crore, considerably higher than the
previous estimate of Rs.6,300 crore.
IOC's naphtha plant will have a
capacity 8 lakh tpa of ethylene, 5.75 lakh tpa of propylene, 3.5 lakh tpa of
linear low-density polyethylene, 3 lakh tpa of high-density polyethylene, 2x3
lakh tpa of polypropylene and 2.5 lakh tpa of monoethylene glycol.
The expansion project and the 2
million tpa naphtha cracker plant is scheduled for completion by 2009.
