Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and Gail
(India) have finalised the transportation infrastructure details for carrying
the 80mmscmd of gas from Reliances' D6 fields in the Krishna Godavari region.
Gas is first scheduled to flow from the fields in mid-2008. While the two
companies are yet to sign a formal co-operation pact, Gail has already sought
the petroleum ministry's permission to lay several new pipelines to transport
gas from Reliance's gas fields to various parts of the country.
Reliance will use Gail's
Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur (HVJ) and Dahej-Vijaipur (DVPL) pipeline networks for
supplying 20 mmscmd of gas to market in the northern region. Reliance will
transport another 20 mmscmd gas via the Kakinada-Basudevpur-Haldia, to be built
by Reliance Gas Transportation India Ltd (RGTIL). This pipeline connects gas
coming from RIL's gas fields in the KG and Mahanadi basin. Reliance has already
applied for an authorisation to build this pipeline.
Reliance has asked Gail to integrate
its Kakinada-Basudevpur-Haldia gas pipeline system with the HVJ network by
building a pipeline from Jagdishpur to Haldia. This would mean constructing
another big gas pipeline connecting the eastern region (Haldia in West Bengal)
with the northern region (Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh). Gail has already applied
to the petroleum ministry for laying the Jagdishpur-Haldia pipeline system.
In addition, Gail has also sought
authorisation to build two new pipelines - Dadri-Bawana-Nangal and
Chainsa-Gurgaon-Jhajjar-Hissar - for transporting Reliance's gas. Gail has
informed the ministry that around 10 mmscmd of gas from RIL's KG basin fields
will flow through the proposed Chainsa-Gurgaon-Jhajjar-Hissar pipeline.
While Reliance is building another
pipeline from Kakinada to Uran, connecting east with west, it will use Gail's
existing networks for the supply of gas to markets approximately 12-32 mmscmd of
gas in east Godavari regions. Gail should create necessary pipeline
infrastructure for the same.
Reliance has also asked Gail to create
pipeline infrastructure to enable delivery of gas to its facilities at
Patalganga (1.6 mmscmd), IPCL-Nagothane (0.4 mmscmd), NMSEZ Navi Mumbai
(initially 3 mmscmd) and Reliance Petrochemicals, Navi Mumbai (1.5 mmscmd).
