• A joint venture of Soma Enterprise and Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd (SunCon), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sunway Holdings Inc Bhd bagged a contract worth Rs.329 crore from National Highways Authority of India for the four-lane National Highway connectivity to International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) at Vallarpadam in Ernakulam district of Kerala. • US-based Emerson has received an order to digitally automate the 2x300 MW Amarkantak power plant at Pathadi village in Korba district in Chhattisgarh. The order has been placed by China-based Dongfang Electric Corporation, the EPC contractor of the project. Emerson will install its PlantWeb digital plant architecture with the Ovation expert control system at the two units, according to the statement issued by Emerson.

The project involves construction of 7.5 km tunnel of 4100 mm diameter with allied works such as intake and pipeline for transportation of water. The project is to be executed within 48 months. • Patel Engineering in joint venture with Pratibha Industries has secured a Rs.156.70 crore contract from Municipal Corporation of Brihanmumbai for construction of 3.5 km tunnel of 2,800 mm diameter with shafts and allied works from Malabar hill to Cross Maidan for transportation of water. The project will be executed within a period of 37 months.

• Petron Engineering Construction has received letter of award (LoA) from Zeeco India for erection and installation of HP / LP flare for KG D6 Kakinada project of Reliance Industries Ltd for a total value of Rs.4.5 crore. (project details)

• Pratibha Industries has secured a contract worth Rs.19.9 crore from GMS Construction for construction of a commercial building at Kalina, Santacruz. The project is to be executed in nine months.

• Pratibha Infrastructure, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pratibha Industries has secured a contract worth Rs.80.5 crore from Asian Healthcare Services for construction of multi-specialty hospital building at Worli. The scope of work involves construction of a building consisting of two-level basement, two towers of 18 and 23 stories in steel structure, encasing steel structure in cement etc. The project is to be executed in eighteen months.

B. Overseas Contracts

• Finnish energy technology firm Wartsila has received an order worth 100 million euros (Rs.560 crore) from German-based Bayernfonds BestEnergy for six turnkey biomass-fuelled power plants. Construction work on the biomass plants is expected to start by July 2007 and is scheduled for completion by end-2008. [This news development is subject to confirmation]

• Dutch Engineering consultancy Fugro NV has won a $145 million seismic contract from Oil & Natural Gas Corporation. The work will be executed by one of Fugro's 3D seismic vessels over two consecutive field seasons in 2007-08 and 2008-09 with a duration of about seven months per season.

• Welspun Gujarat Stahl Rohren announced that it won orders worth Rs.700 crore ($170 million) for the supply of pipelines to international clients. The company's current pending order book position stands at around Rs.4,700 crore including orders executed in the last quarter of fiscal year 2006-07.

• Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation, USA, the subsidiary of Suzlon Energy has signed a contract for a total of 400 MW of wind turbine capacity with PPM Energy of Portland, Oregon. The delivery of the 300 MW of wind turbine capacity is expected by 2008 and 100 MW of wind turbine capacity by 2009.
