Tata Steel awarded a blast furnace
order to Metals Technologies (MT), a division of the Siemens Group Industrial
Solutions & Services (I&S), for its integrated steel plant at Kalinganagar in
Orissa.
For the first phase of development of
the integrated steel project Siemens Metals Technologies will engineer and
supply key technological equipment for the Blast Furnace No. 1. The furnace will
be designed with a hearth diameter of 13.8 m, an inner volume of 4,300 m3, a
furnace top pressure of 2.5 bar g, a nominal daily production capacity of 9,150
tpd and a nominal annual capacity of 3.2 million tpa
The blast furnace will be
characterized by a low fuel-consumption rate (500–535 kg/metric ton of hot
metal, depending on the pulverized coal injection (PCI) rate and burden type), a
high coal-injection rate (160–200 kg/metric ton of hot metal), advanced
waste-heat-recovery and environmental systems, Level 1 automation systems in
addition to Level 2 control and optimization systems.
