Tata Motors plans to roll out the
diesel variant of its passenger car - Nano - by September 2009. The company had
earlier announced the rollout to be in the last quarter of 2008.
It is learnt that the displacement of
the diesel engine will be slightly higher than petrol. The petrol engine has a
623 cubic capacity. Tata Motors had indicated its plan to launch diesel Nano
while unveiling the Rs.1,00,000 car at the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2009.
Tata Motors has recently signed an MoU with the
Gujarat government for relocating the Nano plant to Gujarat. The plant will be
located in Sanand, near Ahmedabad and will have an initial capacity of 2.50 lakh
units, which will be expanded up to 5 lakh cars per year.
Earlier, Tatas had planned to roll out
the car from Singur in West Bengal, from where it pulled out due to immense
political resistance.
