The World Bank (WB) is
likely to approve a loan assistance of $300 million (approx Rs.1,440 crore) for
the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-II) Phase II.
The Phase II of the
MUTP project involves an investment outlay of $700 million (approx Rs.3,360
crore). Introduction of more trains and improved signalling systems are part of
the MUTP-II.
Jogeshwari-Vikhroli
Link Road (JVLR) which comes under MUTP Phase I will be ready by the end-2009,
while the Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) will be ready by 2010. The WB team
concluded their fortnightly review mission on 06 February 2009. After taking a
review, the WB team has advised the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development
Authority to provide lighting on a section of the JVLR as many stretches of the
road are still without the lamp posts.
