Reliance Industries (RIL) on 27 March 2009 signed gas sale and purchase
agreements (GSPA) with 12 fertiliser firms to supply the first produce from its
offshore Krishna-Godavari (KG) D6 fields on the east coast.
The GSPA involved supply of 15 million standard cubic mtrs per day (mscmd) of
natural gas to 15 urea units across the country. These belong to Nagarjuna
Fertilisers and Chemicals, Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative, Krishak Bharti
Cooperative, Gujarat State Fertiliser Company, National Fertilisers, Tata
Chemicals, Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals, Indo Gulf Fertilisers, Shriram
Fertilisers and Chemicals, Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertiliser Company, and
KRIBHCO-Shyam Fertilisers.
The gas is expected to start flowing in the next few days and supplies will
begin from mid-April. RIL plans to begin production with 10-12 mscmd of gas in
April and will be increased to 40 mscmd by July and reach peak production of 80
mscmd in a year.
