The Airports Authority of India (AAI) plans to infuse Rs 3,000 crore for
undertaking various developmental works in different airports across the country
during 2009-10.
Of the total outlay, Rs 2,000 crore is expected to be used for carrying out
developmental works at the Chennai airport. The ongoing works at the airport
include expansion of the secondary runway across the Adyar river by covering
with concrete roofing. The works are slated to be completed by early 2011.
Apart from this, AAI had sanctioned Rs 125 crore for undertaking
developmental works at Madurai Airport, Rs 90 crore and 70 crore for Mangalore
and Coimbatore airports respectively. Work on these airports has already
commenced.
