The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is expected to complete the
airport-side upgrade of 35 non-metro airports by end-December 2009.
The modernisation of the city-side development is part of the upgrade
programme for the 35 non-metro airports in India by 2010.
Every airport has two sides. One is the city side, which has parking space,
hotel, restaurants and other amenities, while the airport side includes
everything inside the airport. AAI is also planning to develop the city side of
24 airports, including Jaipur and Udaipur in Rajasthan, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh
and Amritsar in Punjab, on a PPP basis. AAI is likely to develop the city side
on the PPP basis at the airports where it has got land.
Currently, consultants are working on the PPP structure, to be used for these
projects, and they are expected to submit their report by end-July 2009. After
the submission of the report, RfQs are likely to be invited for the proposed
projects.
In 2006, AAI planned to spend around Rs 6,440 crore on modernisation of 35
airports, including Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Amritsar, Guwahati (Assam), Jaipur,
Lucknow , Patna (Bihar), Port Blair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands), Ranchi
(Jharkhand), Chandigarh and Pune (Maharashtra).
