Work on the proposed Vizhinjam international transhipment container terminal
in Kerala is expected to commence in 2010.
The Kerala Government is likely to identify an investor by November 2010,
following which the construction of the port will formally start.
The state government has committed to develop the basic infrastructure, which
includes rail and road connectivity to the port site, and has set aside Rs 450
crore for the purpose. Vizhinjam International Sea Port is to carry out the
related work.
