The Andhra Pradesh Government on 7 April 2010 decided to replace Maytas Infra
with Navayuga Engineering as lead promoter of the Machilipatnam port project in
Andhra Pradesh.
The Maytas led consortium, which was originally granted the project, had
Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC), Srei Infrastructure Finance and Sarat
Chatterjee & Company as consortium partners. But, the consortium was unable to execute the project due
to internal and external factors.
With Srei Infrastructure Finance and Sarat Chatterjee & Company exiting the
consortium the port will be developed by Navayuga and NCC.
The Machilipatnam project has been designed to come up in about 6,200 acre
with an outlay of Rs 1,600 crore for the Phase I. The port is likely to have 12
berths with a total cargo handling capacity of 35 million tpa. However, in the
Phase I, it will have three berths with a cargo handling capacity of about 15
million tpa.
