The MoEF has discarded a proposal to set up a port at Positra, near Jamnagar
in Gujarat pointing out that it will impact the marine ecosystem in the Gulf of
Kachchh.
The ministry has denied permission to carry out the environmental impact
assessment and risk assessment for setting up a port in Positra.
The Positra port was to be developed by Gujarat Positra Infrastructure, a SPV
promoted by Sea King Infrastructure and the Gujarat Maritime Board. The proposed
project site is within the parts of Gulf of Kachchh Marine National Park which
is rich in marine biodiversity and is in a highly ecological fragile area.
