The Andhra Pradesh Industrial
Infrastructure Corporation has invited expressions of interest for development,
implementation and operation of the greenfield Gangavaram minor port in the
state, on commercial format, with private sector participation.
The state government has appointed
the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) as the nodal
agency for development of the port. APIIC has entrusted L&T-Ramboll
Consulting Engineers Ltd, in association with Rogge Marine Consulting of Germany,
the task of carrying out the feasibility studies of the port.
The Gangavaram port is situated 15
km from the Visakhapatnam port. It has several natural advantages such as
location of deep water close to the shore, availability of large uninhabited
back up area, close proximity of the port to national / regional road, air and
rail transport network and proximity of Visakhapatnam city, Visakhapatnam Steel
Plant, National Thermal Power Corporation, Parawada Industrial Development
Area, Visakhapatnam Export Processing Zone and proposed Special Economic Zone.
Detailed traffic forecast study
reveals very good potential for the port in all cargo markets (especially dry
bulk, break bulk and containers). Results of economic and financial analysis
are quite encouraging.
The last date for
submission of EoIs is 31 October 2001.
