Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar has announced a 114-km elevated corridor network aimed at easing traffic congestion in Bengaluru. This comes a day after the State Cabinet approved the long-pending tunnel road project.
Opinions from the traffic police have been sought, and tenders for Phase-1 of the tunnel project will be floated soon. Addressing concerns about potential congestion at tunnel entry and exit points, he clarified that no exit points would be allowed within a one-km radius of Vidhana Soudha to avoid gridlocks. Discussions with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and police are ongoing to finetune the project.
Additionally, a Rs 4,000 crore plan under the ‘Swachha Bengaluru’ initiative was unveiled to revamp the city's waste management system. Bengaluru will be divided into 33 dedicated waste zones, each aligned with major constituencies or wards. The plan includes a seven-year operational tender and a one-time citywide debris and waste clearance drive. The integrated effort aims to make Bengaluru cleaner and more efficient.
