In a significant development, the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have reached multiple agreements to resolve long-standing inter-state water disputes.
The talks, facilitated by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti in New Delhi, were attended by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. A key outcome of the meeting was Andhra Pradesh’s acceptance of Telangana’s proposal to install telemetry systems at all major water projects and reservoirs. "This move is expected to enhance transparency and ensure accurate measurement of water usage across both states," said officials.
The states also agreed on the allocation of river management board offices. The Godavari River Management Board will be headquartered in Hyderabad, while the Krishna River Management Board will be set up in Andhra Pradesh. This decision is viewed as a step towards improving administrative coordination.
Additionally, Andhra Pradesh consented to Telangana’s request to begin immediate repair work on the crucial Srisailam project. Both governments decided to form a joint committee of officers and technical experts within a week to resolve remaining issues concerning the Krishna and Godavari river basins. The meeting was described as "cordial and constructive."
