ACME Group has formed a joint venture (JV) with Japan’s IHI Corporation will develop India’s largest green ammonia facility at Gopalpur, Odisha.
The project, first outlined in a 2023 MoU, has achieved major milestones including securing land, completing front-end engineering design (FEED), and IHI acquiring a 30 percent stake in ACME Clean Energy. Once operational, the facility will produce 0.4 million tonne of green ammonia annually, primarily for Japanese end users in the power and chemical sectors, supporting Japan’s long-term decarbonization goals.
The project is expected to mitigate over 0.8 million tonne of carbon emissions per year and is targeted for commissioning by 2029–30. Development activities now underway include EPC contracting, renewable energy integration, and ammonia evacuation infrastructure. ACME Chairman Manoj Kumar Upadhyay said, “Our joint venture is a milestone not only for ACME Group but for India’s journey towards becoming a global leader in green hydrogen and green ammonia.”
