Andhra Pradesh is set to take a significant step in its clean energy journey with the foundation stone for a large green ammonia plant scheduled to be laid on March 18 at Mulapeta in Srikakulam district by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
The proposed facility, spread over 282 acres, will have a production capacity of five lakh tonne per annum and is expected to position the state as a global green energy hub. The project follows a memorandum of understanding signed between SRM University–AP and JK Srivastava Henfra PSA, an Indo-Polish joint venture, to establish a Centre of Excellence for Hydrogen Technologies as part of Andhra Pradesh’s vision for a “green hydrogen valley.” SRM University officials highlighted their role in developing indigenous, low-cost electrolysers, advanced hydrogen storage solutions, and refuelling infrastructure for hydrogen-powered aviation.
The MoU also aims to train an industry-ready workforce in hydrogen technology, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing, reducing reliance on foreign expertise. The plant is expected to contribute to exports of green ammonia to Europe by August 2028 and align with the state’s integrated clean energy policy targeting Rs 7.5 lakh crore in investments, 10 lakh employment opportunities, and incentives like a 25 percent capital subsidy by 2029–30.
