Suzuki Motor Corporation and Suzuki R&D Centre India (SRDI) have inaugurated a 1.5 tonne-per-day biogas plant in Bhukhala, Banaskantha district, Gujarat.
The Banas Suzuki Biogas Plant, spread over 27,000 sq. mtrs., has the capacity to process 100 tonne of cow dung daily, producing enough fuel to power around 850 CNG vehicles each day. This facility is Suzuki's second biogas plant, following the Agthala plant that opened in December 2025. The plant will produce biogas as fuel for CNG vehicles (CBG) and organic fertilizer from cow dung. The opening ceremony was attended by notable figures including Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat, Shankar Chaudhary, Chairman of Banas Dairy, and Kenichiro Toyofuku, Managing Officer of Suzuki.
Biogas, a carbon-neutral fuel, is seen as a sustainable option for India's growing CNG vehicle market, which constitutes about 20 percent of passenger cars. The plant is expected to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy self-sufficiency, and create employment opportunities, boosting rural income and living standards.
