The Telangana State government has instructed the Adilabad District Collector to acquire 700 acres of land for the development of a joint-user airport in the district headquarters.
This project aims to fulfill the long-standing demand for air passenger connectivity for the people of Adilabad and surrounding areas. As part of its regional airport development initiative, the government appointed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) as a consultant to prepare techno-economic feasibility reports (TEFRs) for six proposed airports, including Adilabad. The AAI's report indicates the feasibility of the Adilabad airport, pending necessary clearances.
In April 2025, the Indian Air Force (IAF) had approved the proposal for civil aircraft operations from the existing IAF airstrip located near Adilabad. The airfield will be developed as a joint-user facility, with AAI acquiring additional land for civil terminals and supporting infrastructure.
