Alstom may join hands with BHEL for manufacturing locomotives for the Indian
Railways.
The company is looking for a local partner for refurbishment or new loco
projects. However, nothing has been finalised as yet. If the locomotive JV goes
through it will be the French company's second JV with BHEL. The company has
already signed an agreement with BHEL and NPCIL for setting up nuclear power
projects in India.
Alstom is building a manufacturing unit in Chennai to supply coaches for the
Chennai Metro, which is slated to be commissioned by 2013.
