A delegation from the Andhra Pradesh government, led by Handlooms & Textiles Minister S Savitha, visited Kitex Garments’ headquarters in Kizhakkambalam, Kerala, on 07 June, 2025, inviting the company to invest in the state’s textile sector. The invitation was extended on the instruction of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, with Savitha highlighting Andhra Pradesh’s “robust textile infrastructure, integrated apparel clusters, land and cotton availability, and excellent port and road connectivity.”
If Kitex accepts the proposal, this would be its second-largest investment outside Kerala, after Telangana. The company has already invested Rs 3,600 crore in Telangana, employing over 50,000 people and utilising 15 percent of the State’s cotton output. Two units — in Hyderabad and Warangal, are set to produce 24 lakh units daily and are expected to be fully operational later this year.
Kitex’s Kizhakkambalam plant currently produces 11 lakh units daily with a workforce of 9,000 (down from 11,000). Over the past 30 years, around Rs 1,000 crore has been invested in the Kerala unit, but no fresh investments have been made there in the last decade due to a fallout with the Kerala government.
