Andhra Pradesh is set to establish a space city in Tirupati, and two defence manufacturing hubs in Madakasira, marking a significant step in its aerospace and defence plans.
The state has partnered with Skyroot Aerospace, a startup founded by former ISRO scientists, to develop the 300-acre space city with an investment of Rs 400 crore. The facility will focus on private satellite launches, including rocket manufacturing, assembly, testing, and storage. Additionally, two defence hubs will be developed with a combined investment of Rs 3,000 crore.
Kalyani Strategic Systems (KSSL) will set up a Defence Energetics Manufacturing complex on 1,000 acres, covering explosives, ammunition, and gun propellants. HFCL will establish an artillery and ammunition complex over another 1,000 acres, manufacturing shells, TNT, and grenades. Strategically located near Bengaluru, these hubs aim to strengthen India’s defence ecosystem. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu aims to attract Rs 50,000–1 lakh crore in investments over five years, positioning the state as a major aerospace and defence manufacturing hub.
