The Assam Cabinet has approved a Rs 600-crore project to establish skill education centres across the state in collaboration with the Tata Group’s Nelco, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on 21 August, 2025.
The project, aimed at creating a robust skill ecosystem, will be jointly financed, with 75 percent of the cost borne by the Tata Group. The Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) will serve as the nodal agency, setting up 50 hubs and 500 spokes. In the first phase, 10 hubs and 70 spokes will be created.
Each hub will host futuristic training centres covering 10 trades, while the spokes will function as schools offering vocational courses under SSA. All hubs and spokes will be connected through satellite-based communication provided by Nelco.
