Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged the Union government to approve construction of a 12-lane greenfield highway connecting the upcoming Bharat Future City near Hyderabad with Machilipatnam port in Andhra Pradesh via Amaravati.
Highlighting Telangana’s landlocked status, CM Reddy said the project would allow the state’s industries to access seaborne trade through Machilipatnam. The proposed 330-km corridor includes 118 km in Telangana. Responding to the request, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari assured sanction of works under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), with an estimated Rs 858 crore, within a week.
He added that a team from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) would visit Telangana soon to examine connectivity options. The Minister also announced that a review meeting with senior MoRTH and NHAI officials will be held on September 22 in Hyderabad to discuss project modalities.
