Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to strengthen supervision of its Versova-Dahisar Link Road (VDLR) project by deploying nearly 200 additional officers.
The proposal awaits approval from Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani.

This move comes as the BMC’s Bridges Department grapples with heavy workloads from multiple projects, including the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR), Madh-Versova bridge, and several bridge reconstructions. The VDLR, part of Mumbai’s accelerated infrastructure drive under state government directives, spans 20 km and has an outlay of Rs 16,621 crore.

Designed to ease chronic traffic congestion, it will complement Phase II of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), which is being fast-tracked, following a state directive. Like Phase I, which stretches 10.58 km from Marine Drive to Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Phase II will have a dedicated team and feature tunnels, a cable-stayed bridge, and key interchanges for improved north-south traffic flow.

Adding to this momentum, the Dahisar-Bhayandar Elevated Road—a 5.6-km, 45mtrs.-wide corridor costing Rs 3,304 crore, has been cleared. Construction will begin in August 2025, with completion targeted for December 2028. Securing environmental clearance last year, the project promises a travel-time reduction from 90–120 minutes to just 15–20 minutes. Additionally, it is projected to cut carbon emissions by 55 percent through fuel savings, reinforcing the city’s sustainable mobility agenda.
