Namma Metro has collaborated with SUN Mobility to establish battery-swapping stations for electric vehicles (EVs) at 19 metro stations in Bengaluru. The initiative, designed to support last-mile connectivity, serves passengers commuting to and from metro stations.
On 16 December 2024, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) Managing Director M Maheshwar Rao inaugurated the 19th battery-swapping station at Hoodi metro station. The stations are strategically located in parking areas and auto stands, providing easy access for EV users.
According to SUN Mobility, these battery-swapping stations collectively facilitated 19,000 EVs in the past month, enabling a total of 1,25,000 km of travel. On average, each metro station serviced around 2,800 EVs. This includes 2,300 two-wheeler trips and 500 three-wheeler trips.
Highlighting the success of the project, he stated that the BMRCL intends to expand this initiative across the city.
