National Highways Authority of India, on 9
September 2005, signed a
Rs.360 crore agreement with Western UP Tollway to develop the
Meerut-Muzaffarnagar section on NH-58 in Uttar Pradesh, on BOT basis.
The project involves four-laning of the 78.31 km
high-traffic density section, expected to be completed in 36 months. The
concessionaire, Western UP Tollway Ltd -- a joint venture between Nagarjuna
Construction Co and MAYTAS Infra Pvt Ltd -- has been given a grant of Rs.127.8
crore for a concession period of 20 years including construction period of three
years.
The development of the Meerut-Muzaffarnagar
section -- currently two-lane except for isolated four-lane stretches of about 6
km -- is part of NHDP - III A.
This is the second concession agreement signed
under NHDP (III-A). In July 2005, a concession agreement was signed to develop
the 12 km Guna Bypass in Madhya Pradesh, on BOT basis. [No further details of
