BSNL plans to invest Rs.178 crore to
upgrade its existing network, increase its existing capacity for GSM lines and
replacing its CDMA system in Pune by end-2006.
Out of the total project cost, around
Rs.90 crore will be invested in the basic network and Rs.80 crore will go
towards building the GSM network.
BSNL scope of work includes
upgradation of CDMA/WLL network and the existing non-MSC (Main Switching Centre)
based CDMA system will be replaced with a new MSC syatem. This will add an
additional 25,000 lines to the network.
The company has not yet received the
permission from the civic authorities to add more Base Transceiver Station (BTS)
towers for its GSM network. It is learnt that another 230 BTS towers are
required for which the company is in talks with the state government.
