The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is grappling with the challenge of sustaining the rejuvenated Thippagondanahalli (TG Halli) reservoir due to delays in water supply from the Yettinahole project.
Although the rejuvenation project, launched in 2019, was completed in 2024 after multiple deadline extensions, the expected 1.7 tmc of water from Yettinahole has yet to arrive. As a temporary solution, BWSSB has been diluting the available water at TG Halli with Cauvery water in a 1:20 ratio and pumping it for use.
“The decision was taken after consultation with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). It is important that we keep the plant operational and hence the decision was taken,” Chairman, BWSSB, Dr Ramprasat Manohar V said. He added that the water quality has been tested and approved by IISc.
For the first time, BWSSB has implemented ozonation technology at the reservoir to combat potential pollution from surrounding Arkavathy settlements. The facility is projected to supply 110 MLD of treated water to western Bengaluru once water from Yettinahole begins flowing.
