Bharat Forge plans to invest over Rs.400 crore
for setting up a manufacturing unit at an undecided location . The new facility will be for
larger products, sub-assemblies and value-added products.
The company is currently doubling the forging
capacity at its Pune unit to 2.5 lakh tpa which is likely to complete
by March 2006.
Bharat Forge is also planning to set up
development centres in Europe, North America and China for product design and
development and the China unit is expected to have an equal size to the Indian
centre. The company which has facilities in foreign location expects to have a
capacity of 6 lakh tpa after the expansion.
The company's engineering development centre in
India has around 50 engineers and it is opening such centres at off-shore
locations as well.
The last acquisition by the company was in
December 2005, when it signed a joint venture contract with China's Faw Group
to acquire its forging business. To facilitate its global expansion plans, the
company has raised $100 million through GDR and $120 million through FCCBs in April 2005.
