BorgWarner, a US-based worldwide automotive industry components and parts supplier, has expanded manufacturing operations near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company has added 1,500 sq mtr of manufacturing space to its existing 35,100 sq mtr production line at its Kakkalur facility in Thiruvallur near Chennai.
The new facility will employ more than 80 people. The expansion plans involve refreshing their products and trying to bring new engines for their vehicles, both for new and old. The company is also upgrading the engines for new emission norms.
The production facility includes engineering, manufacturing and office areas as well as warehouse space. The unit has been producing silent and roller chains, tensioners, and other products for variable valve timing applications. It can produce around three million automotive chains a year.
The company has also brought in a new product line -- variable cam timing (VCT) systems -- in its manufacturing operations. VCT systems are aimed at helping vehicle manufacturers improve fuel economy, reliability and engine efficiency. The company will begin production of VCT systems in two-three months.
