The Telangana government has reaffirmed its commitment to complete the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel project by December 2026 or January 2027.
Following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, it was decided to replace the tunnel boring machine with new technology to complete the remaining 12 km of the 44 km tunnel. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy assured that this change would not incur additional costs.
The project, initiated under the Congress government to divert Krishna water to Nalgonda district, was delayed. Despite a tragic tunnel collapse resulting in 12 fatalities, 80 percent of the project funds have already been spent. Additionally, the Cabinet discussed the progress of super-specialty hospitals and the dismantling of a unit at the Ramagundam power plant.
