The Central government has approved the second instalment of Rs 332.30 crore for a large-scale sewage network project in 23 villages recently merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

This initiative, under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme, aims to overhaul the drainage infrastructure in the newly added areas. The total cost of the project stands at Rs 1,437.94 crore. So far, Rs 533.85 crore has been sanctioned, with the latest instalment approved on 22 July, 2025. Officials stated that project work will soon resume.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj BP said, “The PMC has prepared a sewage plan for the 23 merged villages with an estimated cost of Rs 1,437.94 crore. As part of the project, old sewage lines will be replaced, and about 472 km of new drainage pipelines will be laid in these areas.” The plan also includes the construction of eight new sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 201 million litres per day (MLD).

Under the AMRUT scheme, Rs 343.13 crore has been allocated for pipeline work and Rs 190.72 crore for STPs. AMRUT 2.0 will be implemented in areas including Sus, Mahalunge, Narhe, Pisoli, and others.
