The Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) first transit-oriented development (TOD) project at Karkardooma is expected to be completed by December 2026.
The project includes around 500 economically weaker section (EWS) units and about 1,000 middle-income group (MIG) flats, with no studio apartments planned. While structural works are nearing completion, finishing, internal services, landscaping, and statutory clearances are in progress. Earlier, booking of EWS flats was planned for February 2024, but DDA now aims to start bookings for all units simultaneously once all services are operational. Other TOD projects in Delhi have yet to progress.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced a policy to promote high-rise construction directly linked to metro stations via elevated walkways. The Karkardooma TOD will feature residential, commercial, and office spaces with multimodal public transport access, aiming to reduce vehicle use and decongest the city. Notably, 30 percent of the area will be green space, including a multipurpose field, open gym, landscaped areas, and exclusive green zones for residents.
