The detailed project report (DPR) for a 110-km elevated corridor across Bengaluru has been approved by the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s technical advisory committee, with an estimated cost of Rs 18,000 crore, including Rs 3,000 crore for land acquisition.
Although the tunnel road project is still under tendering, the DPR will be submitted to the state government by September 25 for final approval. Once approved, construction is expected to start by December and complete within 25 months. BS Prahallad, Director (Technical), Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure (B-SMILE), stated, “The government has already given in-principle approval for the project. Once it gives its nod for the DPR, the work will start by December.”
The fully elevated corridor will operate under a public private partnership (PPP) model and be tolled. Using ultra-high-performance fibre-reinforced concrete technology, with precast factory-made components, the corridor aims for high strength and quality. “We prepared the DPR after studying the city’s traffic for one year... all those ideas have been incorporated,” said Director Prahallad.
