Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has commissioned India’s first one MW green hydrogen plant, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s clean energy and maritime decarbonisation efforts.
Developed under the Make-in-India initiative, the project was executed by engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and is expected to produce approx. 140 metric tonne of green hydrogen annually. This plant is the first module of a larger 10 MW green hydrogen facility, for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in May 2025.
Inaugurated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the facility aligns with the Maritime India Vision 2030 and represents a leap towards sustainable port operations. The plant is part of DPA’s broader green initiatives, including the earlier deployment of India’s first all-electric green tug.
Minister of State Shantanu Thakur highlighted the project as a symbol of India’s leadership in clean energy, innovation, and self-reliance. The commissioning complements national efforts to integrate green hydrogen across industrial clusters, transport, and refuelling networks, bolstering India’s energy transition roadmap.
