During a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government has approved a revised Rs 2,406-crore plan to overhaul the water supply system within the catchment area of Chandrawal water treatment plant (WTP).
The Delhi Water Supply Improvement Project (DWSIP) project, assisted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aims to replace the 1,000 km of outdated water transmission lines that have been causing contamination and leakages. It will benefit around 22 lakh residents in areas like Patel Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh, and more.
The project will increase the treatment capacity of the Chandrawal WTP from 90 MGD to 115 MGD, and reduce non-revenue water from 50 percent to 15 percent. Work is already underway on two of the six project packages, with a completion timeline of three years.
