Dharavi, one of Mumbai’s most densely populated localities, is poised to become a key Metro interchange hub as part of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP).
A second metro station is being planned under Metro Line 11 (Wadala-CSMT), complementing the existing Metro Line 3 (Colaba-BKC-Aarey), which is under construction. The proposed extension of Line 11 westward from Wadala to Dharavi and Sion aims to significantly enhance east-west and north-south connectivity across Mumbai.
This initiative, being undertaken by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL), includes a multi-level interchange station called Dharavi Central, potentially transforming it into a central mobility node. The Rs 16,000 crore project will enable smoother access from eastern suburbs to BKC and the airport, reducing travel time and road congestion.
The project also integrates feeder buses and non-motorised transport infrastructure to ensure robust last-mile connectivity. Once completed, Dharavi will emerge not just as a residential-commercial centre, but also as a future-ready transportation hub.
