The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL) has fully energised the 33.5-km Colaba-BandraSEEPZ underground Metro Line 3, marking a major milestone for the city’s first underground metro project.
The 25 kV traction line was activated on July 23, enabling trial runs on the remaining Worli to Colaba Cuffe Parade section. The energisation allows MMRC to start trial runs following mandatory system checks and safety procedures. These trials will continue until the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) conducts inspections and issues a checklist of compliance requirements. Commercial operations can begin only after CMRS certification.
Originally slated for an August launch, the final phase’s start may be delayed to ensure all safety and operational protocols are met.
