Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam is planning to set up a 66 MW power unit for Dhaula
Sidh hydroelectric project instead of the originally proposed 40 MW project. The
project is estimated to cost Rs 467 crore.
The earlier project situated on the Beas river in Hamirpur district of
Himachal Pradesh was not considered economically an attractive proposition.
The power plant is expected to have two units of 33 MW each. The Union and
the state government, respectively, have 51 and 49 per cent stake in the
project.
The project envisages construction of a 51 mtrs high dam at Salasi,
downstream Sujanpur Tira. The 95 mtrs wide dam across the river is likely to
create 14 km long water body which will extend up to Sujanpur. The maximum level
of the reservoir has been pegged at 3 mtrs below the road bridge on the river.
The spread of the reservoir will be 554 ha. The power house is to be located
inside the dam structure.
The plant is being designed for a discharge of 160 cumecs to generate 290
million units of power.
