Engineers India (EIL) has begun site activities for its compressed biogas (CBG) Plant in the MIDC Halkarni Industrial Area, Kolhapur, marking a significant step towards India’s renewable energy goals.
The foundation stone was laid by Pankaj Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, alongside EIL's C&MD Ms. Vartika Shukla and senior officials. The self-funded project, with a production capacity of five tonne per day (TPD) of CBG, will process 125 TPD of press mud from nearby sugar mills using advanced bio-methanation technology. The produced biogas will be supplied to HPOIL, facilitating clean fuel distribution through HPCL retail outlets. This will help reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable fuels.
In addition, the plant will generate fermented organic manure (FOM) and liquid fermented organic manure (LFOM), supporting sustainable agriculture. The project aligns with national missions such as SATAT and Atmanirbhar Bharat, reinforcing India’s Waste-to-Energy and Clean Mobility goals.
