NTPC has announced plans to establish a green hydrogen project in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with a production capacity of one tonne per day.
The project will be implemented by NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance (NETRA), the company's research and development wing. The facility will use plasma gasification technology to convert waste into tar-free syngas, which will then be processed to produce hydrogen using PSA/membrane technology. NTPC, a major power producer in India, currently provides about one-fourth of the country's electricity needs and has an installed capacity of over 85 GW, with 30.90 GW more under construction, including 13.3 GW in renewable energy.
The company plans to achieve 149 GW of capacity by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable sources, and aims to expand to 244 GW by 2037.
