ENGIE India has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 100 MW solar project in Barmer, Rajasthan, slated for commissioning in 2027.
The Barmer site is considered strategic due to its favourable conditions and infrastructure, adding to ENGIE’s Rajasthan portfolio, which now nears one GW. Amit Jain, CEO and Country Manager, India MD Renewables & Batteries India & South-East Asia, emphasised that the project will provide reliable solar power to meet rising energy demand in the region. ENGIE’s India portfolio currently stands at 2.5 GW across 23 renewable energy projects in seven states, including over 300 MW in Rajasthan.
Earlier, ENGIE had achieved financial closure for a 200 MW solar project in Khavda, Gujarat, expected to generate approx. 550 GWh annually. The company is increasingly exploring hybrid projects combining solar and energy storage to provide round-the-clock power and grid stability.
