The Multi Modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) project will be expanded towards Gumgaon near Samruddhi Expressway and Hingna. The city MP and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that Nagpur is poised to become the country’s cargo capital with Rs 2,400 crore sanctioned for the projects.
Currently, MIHAN provides employment to 68,000 persons, but it is targeting to employ about one lakh youths. Moreover, UAE's Lulu Group has plans to set up an international convention centre at Mihan. Also, Persistent Systems, is setting up a unit at MIHAN, with creation of 3,500 employment opportunities. IT-based companies like HCL have employed 15,000 and Infosys could employ up to 25,000 in future. Dassault is also making parts for Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
The Minister further informed that apart from eliciting interest for Nagpur international airport modernisation project work, a Netherlands-based form would also start a garbage-to-CNG conversion project in the city soon. The old grain market in the city would be replaced with a plush one with adequate parking space.
MIHAN is the flagship project of Maharashtra Airport Development Company.
