The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) has commenced final inspections of Mumbai Metro Line 2B’s first Phase, a 5.39 km stretch from Mandale to Diamond Garden.
According to MMRDA officials, this inspection is the last step before the corridor can be declared safe for passenger operations. If approved, the section may open by September-end. CMRS, a statutory post under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, ensures metro safety standards nationwide. Work on the second phase, from Diamond Garden to D N Nagar, is nearly 88 percent complete, with full operations targeted by early 2026. The depot is already ready.
The first phase includes five stations—Mandale, Mankhurd, BSNL, Shivaji Chowk, and Diamond Garden, where trial runs have been completed. The 23.6 km Yellow Line 2B, with 20 stations, is part of Mumbai’s larger metro expansion aimed at easing road congestion and serving over 10 lakh commuters daily. The CMRS report will detail compliance requirements, with corrections preceding public opening.
