Ms Mamata Bannerjee on 30 January 2011 laid the foundation stone for
extension of the Circular Railway network to Santoshpur (Akra) via Metiabruz and
Garden Reach in West Bengal.
There are two unused lines at Remount Road and Garden Reach that Eastern
Railway engineers will use for extending the Circular Railway. The project is
estimated to cost Rs 268.52 crore.
The five new stations along the route will be Metiabruz, Garden Reach,
Santoshpur (New), Remount Road and Kachchi Sadak. While the station at Garden
Reach is to be named after Wajed Ali Shah, the one at Remount Road will be
called Rani Rashmoni.
