GAIL (India) and Accelera by Cummins, the zero-emissions division of Cummins has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on clean energy and energy transition technologies in India. The partnership was formalised during India Energy Week 2025 in New Delhi.
The collaboration focuses on leveraging Accelera’s expertise in new energy solutions and GAIL’s natural gas infrastructure to explore green energy opportunities, including hydrogen production, blending, transportation, and storage. This initiative aligns with GAIL’s revised “net zero” target, now set for 2035, five years earlier than its previous goal. Cummins Inc.’s portfolio includes advanced powertrains, electric and hybrid systems, batteries, fuel cells, and hydrogen production technologies, which are key for driving India’s energy transition. GAIL has been a pioneer in clean energy.
In April 2024, it commissioned a 10 MW Green Hydrogen unit at its Vijaipur plant in Madhya Pradesh, using an electrolyser supplied by Accelera. It also operates a five TPD compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Ranchi and plans to establish 26 more such plants across India over the next three to four years.
In partnership with Leafiniti Bioenergy, GAIL is setting up 10 CBG plants. It is also collaborating with Coal India for synthetic natural gas production in West Bengal and has entered a joint venture to build a 1G, 500 KLPD grain-based ethanol plant in Rajasthan.
