In a significant step towards planned urban expansion, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is set to acquire 713.375 acres of land from multiple villages for the development of Eco City 3 in New Chandigarh.
The identified villages include Rasulpur, Salamatpur, Dhodemajra, Takkipur, Rajgarh, Majra, Kartarpur, Kansala, and Hoshiarpur. The acquisition will be carried out under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The designated area has been officially declared a Resettlement Zone.
According to GMADA officials, the Eco City 3 project is a strategic initiative aimed at transforming New Chandigarh into a world-class urban centre by offering modern living facilities and enhancing regional economic growth. Parallelly, the Punjab government is acquiring 309 acres in Mullanpur Garibdass village for low- and high-density residential development, in line with the New Chandigarh Master Plan.
The process began with a Section 4 Notification in November 2022. A Social Impact Assessment conducted by Punjab Agricultural University supported the project, citing strong social and economic benefits. Affected families will receive Rs 5 lakh as annuity, Rs 50,000 as resettlement allowance, and full waivers on stamp duty and registration fees.
