GMR Power and Urban Infra's (GPUIL) subsidiary GMR Smart Electricity Distribution Company has secured a Rs 7,593-crore smart metering project in Uttar Pradesh. The project has been secured under the revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS) programme, and will be executed under the design, build, finance, own, operate, and transfer (DBFOOT) basis.
The scope of the project comprises the supply, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of prepaid smart meters infrastructure covering consumer premises, and also at the network level, including distribution transformers and feeders, for a period of 10 years.
The order entails installing 75.69 lakh prepaid smart meters across Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam (DVVNL) and Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam (PuVVNL), making it the largest in the combined package order category. The project will cover 22 districts and extend to prominent areas such as Varanasi, Prayag Raj, Agra, Mathura, and Aligarh, among others.
GMR Group with its portfolio of energy, urban infrastructure, and transportation, has entered the B2C business in the power sector, it has plans for further initiatives in this space.
