Gurugram Metro Rail (GMRL) has requested clearance from the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to use over 5,800 sq. mtrs. of land for constructing 10 Metro stations under Phase-I of its new corridor.
The proposed land will accommodate critical infrastructure elements like entrances, staircases, and lift access points across the planned route. Phase-I of the Gurugram metro expansion project, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,286 crore, will feature 14 elevated stations along a 15.2 km stretch between Millennium City Centre and Sector-9, including a spur to Sector 101 on the Dwarka Expressway. The complete corridor, spanning 28.5 km and comprising 27 stations, is expected to connect Millennium City Centre with Cyber City, at a total cost of Rs 5,452 crore.
GMRL has already submitted architectural blueprints for stations at several key locations: Millennium City Centre (574 sq. mtrs.), Sector 45 (889 sq. mtrs.), Subhash Chowk (518 sq. mtrs.), Sector 33 (370 sq. mtrs.), Udyog Vihar Phase 6 (628 sq. mtrs.), Sector 10 (720 sq. mtrs.), Sector 37 (323 sq. mtrs.), Basai Village (930 sq. mtrs. for entry and 183.5 sq. mtrs. on the median), Sector 9 (279 sq. mtrs., and Sector 101 (371 sq. mtrs.). The majority of the metro infrastructure will be constructed on ROWs already held by GMRL.
However, the integration of the Bakhtawar Chowk underpass into the metro design has delayed the civil construction phase, which is now expected to commence in June. The underpass is budgeted at Rs 60 crore. To streamline construction, HSVP has allocated 5.25 hectares in Sector 33 for GMRL's casting yard, which will support the precasting of metro components. The tender for phase 1 will open on May 15, as per an official, while the company in the process of finalising the general consultant for the project.
